In March 2007, the Texas Attorney General released an opinion that municipalities in Texas can adopt ordinances that regulate the residency requirements of convicted sex offenders. In April 2007, the University Park City Council passed an ordinance that prohibits registered sex offenders involving a violation with a victim who was a minor, from living within 2,000 feet of a school, park, playground, day care center or other places where children congregate.
